Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.)
The Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) is a postgraduate research degree. It is a lesser degree than the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The M.Phil. is generally considered equivalent to the French diploma d’etudes approfondies (or DEA) or the Spanish Diploma de Estudios Avanzados. In most cases, it is thesis only and is generally regarded as a senior or second Master’s Degree. In some instances the degree research, but before the defence of a Dissertation / M.Phil. Thesis In some cases it can serve as a provisional enrollment for the Ph.D.
The M.Phil. Degree is considered to be a bridge course between the Master’s Degree (M.A. / M.Sc. / M.Com. / MBA / MCA) and the Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) More than 400 universities are conducting M.Phil. Degree of one/two years duration. The admission to the M.Phil. Degree course is regulated through the UGC (Minimum Standards) and Procedure for Award of M.Phil. / Ph.D. Degree) Regulation 2009. According to these regulations, no university, institutions, deemed to be a university and college / institutions of national importance shall conduct M.Phil. / Ph.D. programmes through distance education mode. Selection of M.Phil. Candidates are done based on an Entrance Test conducted by the concerned universities and institutions.
The One Year full time and regular M.Phil. Degree conducted at has been designed for enabling the Master’s Degree holders to acquire expert knowledge of research methodology and other advanced topics for being prepared to be registered in the Ph.D. Degree in the relevant Faculties.
Master’s Degree in the relevant subject or any other equivalent degree from recognised University.
All candidates working in the Govt. Department or Industrial Units or in research organizations and are pursuing M.Phil. programme in the university, while continuing in their Job. They shall pursue research both in their place of employment and in the university.
An all India Entrance Test will be conducted at all important locations in India on 30 June 2011 and on 31 December 2011 for selecting candidates for admission to the M.Phil. Degree. Only the predetermined number of students may be admitted to M.Phil. programme.
The Candidates desirous of registration in M.Phil. programme shall submit the filled-in prescribed form to the along with the necessary supporting documents.
Eligibility of Guide
The selected candidates will be required to qualify course work as per UGC guidelines and submit five copies of the synopsis as per university guidelines in consultation with his/her Research Supervisor. Based on the clearance from the Research Board of the University, registration will be confirmed by also notifying the specific topic for research selected by the Research Scholar who will start researching on the notified topic. The application for Ph.D. programmes will be accepted in the university either July or in January in each academic session.
The Guide under whom a candidate proposes to carry on research programme must satisfy the requirements as under:
- The Proposed supervisor must possess a Ph.D. / M.Phil. Degree in relevant areas of research in which he/she proposes to supervise the candidate.
- A Guide shall not have, at any given point of time, more than five M.Phil. candidate.
Only under unusual situation change of guide may permitted by the university subject to the “No Objection Certificate” from the previous guide stating therein the reasons of change and subsequent recommendation of CCII. The Thesis can be submitted under new supervisor only after one year of the change of Guide.
DISTRIBUTION OF PAPERS
There are three papers in M.Phil. Degree besides an M.Phil. Thesis to be submitted. Examinees will appear in all the three theoretical papers at the end of the academic session.
Examinees will submit the M.Phil. Thesis before appearing in the university examination conducted by university.
Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) Degree with specialization in the relevant subject shall be awarded to all the successful candidates by the CMJ University.
The M.Phil. registration shall be automatically cancelled if the thesis not submits within two years of registration.
- First Installment: Rs. 17,700/- (to be paid in the favor of CMJ University) and Rs. 6,000 ( to be paid to CCII information Centre) ,within a month from the date of the selection of the candidate.
- Second Installment: Rs. 17,500/- (to be paid after four month of first Instalment in the favor of CMJ University)
Evaluation Fee of Rs.2000/- is to be paid in the favor of “CMJ University” while submitting the Doctoral Thesis after two years from the date of registration.
Distribution of Papers
There are four papers including the M.Phil. Thesis in the M.Phil. Degree course. First Paper i.e. Research Methodology is compulsory. The other two papers differ from subject to subject. The following M.Phil. Degree Programmes are being offered for enabling the Master’s Degree holders to complete M.Phil. Degree within one year from the date of admission / registration.
