Faq's - Recognisation

1) What is CMJ University?
CMJ University is a full fledged university and not a deemed university. CMJ University is a University located at Shillong and established by Government of Meghalaya under the provision of the CMJ University Act 2009 (Act 4 of 2009) vide notification no. LL(B)42/09/80 dated 20th July 2009. The CMJ University is notified by UGC (Ministry of HRD, Government of India), New Delhi as state private university under section 2(f) and empowered to award degrees as specified by the UGC under section 22 of UGC  Act 1956, as per notification F.No. – 8-21/2010 (CPP-1/PU) Dated 25th November 2010. As per the Act, the Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya is the Visitor of the CMJU and many representatives of the Government of Meghalaya form part of the Senior Management of the University.
2) Is the CMJ University recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC)?
Yes, the CMJ University is notified by UGC, New Delhi as state private university under section 2(f) and empowered to award degrees as specified by the UGC vide its letter no. F.No. – 8-21/2010 (CPP-1/PU) Dated 25th November 2010. For further details, please refer to the UGC Letter
3) Is the CMJ University recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC)?
Industry Collaborative Education is Regular education with real-time industry exposure  & not a distance education or correspondence education, so Industry Collaborative Education programs does not come under purview of DEC.
4) Are the CMJ University Programs/Courses approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)?
The CMJ University being a University (duly recognized by the UGC) is authorized to start and conduct new programmes/courses, without obtaining prior approval of the AICTE. However, for the purpose of ensuring coordinated and integrated development of technical education, and maintenance of standards, the AICTE may cause an inspection and render advise. 5) Is CMJ University Degree awarded through Industry Collaborative Mode is recognized for employment and is at par with regular degree?
Yes. As per the Circular of Govt. of India, vide no. F. 18-27/70-T.2, dated 20th November 1970, all degrees awarded by the Universities in India incorporated by an act of  Central or state legislature stand automatically recognized by Government of India  for the purpose of employment. 6) What is Center for Collaboration of Industry and Institutions (CCII)?
Section 7(e) and 7(k) of  CMJ University Act, 2009 empowers the university to enter into collaboration with industry/ Institutions/ professional associations/ Research Organisation or any organization to conceptualise, design and develop specific educational and research programs, training programs and exchange programs for students, faculty and others. According to MoU dated 01st August 2011, University has setup Center for Collaboration of Industry and Institutions (CCII) as a constituent with collaboration of APEX eLearning Technologies Ltd to identify and coordinate to offer various Certificate, Diploma, PG Diploma, Advance Diploma, Bachelor Degree, Master Degree, M. Phil. and Ph.D. Degree with the collaboration of Industry and R&D Organisations.

This has been principally due to linkages to be established by the university with various industries (Private, Public and service sector), R&D Organizations, development agencies, etc. For this activity, the University is going to evolve several Degree/ Diploma/Certificate courses by integrating the working environment of the industry and institutions with learning environment required by the University for prescribed period in a professional location where the students and faculty along with the industry experts get involved in academic curriculum related to functional areas of their interest.
7) Am I eligible to pursue Ph.D in a field, after studying a (Masters) Programme from CMJ University?
Yes, you may pursue Ph.D after studying a (Masters) Programme in CMJ University. Industry Collaborative Programmes are considered equivalent to their corresponding Regular Programmes.
8) Am I eligible for UGC - NET / GATE / CAT examination, after studying a Degree Programme from CMJ University?
Yes, you are eligible for UGC NET / GATE /CAT examination after studying a Degree Programme in CMJ University. The CMJ University is notified by UGC (Ministry of HRD, Government of India), New Delhi under section 2(f) and empowered to award degrees as specified by the UGC under section 22 of UGC  Act 1956, as per notification F.No. – 8-21/2010 (CPP-1/PU) Dated 25th November 2010.
9) Am I eligible to sit in the UPSC examination, after studying a (Bachelor Degree) Programme from CMJ University?
Yes, you may eligible to sit in the UPSC examination after studying a (Bachelor Degree) Programme in CMJ University. All Degree awarded by the CMJ University stand automatically recognized for the purpose of employment as per the Circular of Govt. of India, vide no. F. 18-27/70-T.2, dated 20th November 1970. Eligibility to sit in the UPSC examination is a Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
